Volunteer For A Teacher Program

Dayton Crayons to Classrooms (DC2C) is a free store for teachers from under-funded K-12 schools that serve children living in poverty in Ohio’s Miami Valley. In partnership with local businesses, individual donors, and community volunteers, DC2C lifts at-risk children’s level and love of learning by collecting and distributing donated supplies and surplus products for use in the classroom. Teachers from eligible schools are invited to “shop” for what they need in our retail-style free store in the Goodwill Easter Seals Miami Valley building in Dayton, Ohio. In order to expand our program to teachers who work in schools that do not currently qualify for our services, a volunteer program has been developed so an individual can earn a shopping visit to Crayons to Classrooms for a teacher of their choice. The particulars are:

Individuals must volunteer for 5 hours

Individuals can earn two shopping visits per year for a teacher of their choice.

The number of teachers an individual chooses to volunteer for is not limited.

The teacher that benefits must not be teaching at a school that is currently being served by Crayons to Classrooms.

Teachers that benefit, must meet the following qualifications:

  • He or she must be a certified teacher
  • Work in a school serving children living in poverty
  • Work in a school in Clark, Darke, Greene, Miami, Montgomery, Preble, or Warren county
  • Private preschool, daycare, and childcare programs do not qualify for shopping

A shopping visit can be redeemed ONLY by the benefiting teacher by making arrangements with Crayons to Classrooms staff.

Volunteer opportunities range from helping with check-out during a shopping visit to stocking shelves of the store. If you know someone who may be interested in participating in this program and have questions about volunteer opportunities, please contact:
