Since December 2007, Steve has been instrumental in organizing the start-up
effort for a teacher free store in Dayton, Ohio. Immediately prior to his work
Crayons to Classrooms, he served for five years as director of development
for the Kids In Need Foundation, a national education nonprofit also based in
Dayton. While at Kids In Need, he was responsible for creating and implementing
strategies to develop, cultivate, and solicit funds and in-kind gifts from corporations,
foundations, and individuals. Steve also brings experience from 22 years of
progressively responsible positions in retail management at companies including
Target Corporation, Federated Department Stores, and Polo/Ralph Lauren.
In his spare time, Steve enjoys golf, walking his dog Ruby, family activities, and
watching his favorite sports team - The Missouri Tigers. Steve has been married to Karen
for 27 years and has one son, Elliot, who is currently a student at the University Of Missouri.
Steve is a native of Springfield, Missouri.
Jim joined Crayons to Classrooms in July, 2008 as the organization's Warehouse
Manager. Prior to our free store, Jim spent the last ten years working for the
School, Home, and Office Products Association; most recently as a Customer Service
Manager for the SHOPA Buyer-2-Seller Program. He was in charge of recruiting
manufactures in the school and office products industry to attend various trade
events managed by SHOPA. He participated in trade events not only in
the United States, but also Ecuador, the United Arab Emirates, and Vietnam.
Jim also spent 25 years in retail food, including 10 years owning his own business
in Xenia, Ohio. In 1995, he was awarded Retailer of the Year by the Xenia Area
Chamber of Commerce.
In his spare time, Jim enjoys golf, traveling, and watching his favorite sports
teams - the Dayton Flyers, and the Cleveland Browns. He
is also active in the Dayton Hockey Foundation which is in charge of the Dayton
Hockey Hall of Fame. Jim has been married to Terri for 35 years and has two
dogs, Maggie, the beagle and Chester, the rat terrier.
Debra Seger joined Crayons to Classrooms in October 2008 as the organization's
retail program manager. Prior to our free store, Deb worked at The Dayton Foundation
for ten years in various capacities, most recently as Development Assistant.
In this role, she aided in the establishment of charitable funds, grant-writing
tasks and other various functions; proudly assisting many people in the greater
Miami Valley to achieve their charitable goals.
When she is not working, Deb enjoys scrapbooking, reading, bicycling and family
activities. She is an active volunteer in Tippecanoe High School's parent group,
Parents Who Care and Athletic Boosters.
Deb has been married for 29 years to Dennis and has three children: Kimberly,
Carmen, and Eric.
Cheryl joined Crayons to Classrooms on an internship as our Webmaster in December, 2008. Since then, she has been brought
on full time, taking on the Volunteer Coordinator position as well as maintaining her Webmaster role. Cheryl is a Wright State student
finishing her degree in MIS. She has past experience in a warehouse setting and customer service. Her experience in customer service comes
from her past position at Hobart in Troy, Ohio. There she worked in their after hours department taking service calls and paging technicians out to job
sites. Cheryl has worked in several warehouse settings including the following: Honda, United Retail, and Winans Candy Factory.
Cheryl recently married her sweetheart of 5 years in July, congratulations! In her spare time, Cheryl enjoys collecting and listening to old records, hiking, watching her favorite sports team - Indianpolis Colts, painting, gardening and cooking what she has grown in her garden. She also enjoys spoiling her animals. She has two dogs, Lucy and Star, and one cat, Sampson.
